She had kept the dress hanging in the bag in her closet and her door shut as she prepared to go. She didn't want him to see her until everything was perfect. When she was ready, I asked her to give me two minutes before she came out.
And now it was time for the talk with Daddy. For tonight was the Daddy Daughter Dance and for the seventh year in a row he would take her to dance the night away. This night could have a few emotional moments for Daddy like when they play that sock you in the guts song "I danced with Cinderalla" or "Butterly Kisses". So I go in for the pep talk.
"Honey, you are her everything and I want to talk to you about how little girls see their Daddy's. The first thing you say or do, that first look on your face will mean more than you know. This moment is all about her and not about you. She is looking to you as a young lady who loves her Daddy. Even though you may want to scream when you see her with ...where's my baby girl? So please remember she is practicing with her Daddy for her future. She will expect from him what she receives from you. Even though she will always be 'your little girl', treat her like a lady and she will expect that from her prince."
So in she walks and their evening begins. As I watch him help her with her coat I am so grateful for a wonderful husband and a lovely young lady for my daughter. The night will be magical and the standard will be set high for that.... some day her prince will come.
